IMEP – Paris College of Music will be hosting workshops by pianist Steve Browman on Saturday 30 November and Sunday 1 December 2024.
Saturday 30 November 2024 – Workshop from 2pm to 6pm – Managing intensity during a solo
Worshop’s program :
- Checking the density of notes
- Exploring changes of register
- Playing with dynamics
- Adjusting the level of dissonance
- Creating level of Syncopes
- Structuring intensity curves
Sunday 1 December – Workshop from 2pm to 6pm – Piano/Bass Duo with Peter Giron
Workshop’s program :
- Intros et outros
- head arrangements structuration
- Presentation of the theme by piano and bass
- relationship between the two
- Solo management: who goes first?
- Accompaniment of a bass solo on the piano
- Sharing musical space
- Improvisation simultanée
The workshops are open to all instrumentalists and vocalists!
The workshops will take place in Studio B at IMEP – Paris College of Music.
Each workshop costs just 65 euros. If you take part in both workshops, a 15% discount will be applied, i.e. both workshops for 110 euros instead of 130 euros.
The speakers:
Steve Browman has been teaching jazz for 55 years. A pianist with a master’s degree in music composition from Brooklyn College Conservatory (C.U.N.Y), and a former teacher at the American School for 15 years between 1994 and 2008, he has performed throughout the United States, Canada, France, Norway, India, Sri Lanka, Tunisia and the French Caribbean. His trio has performed extensively in New York and Paris. His compositions are played in the United States, Europe and India.
Peter Giron is a bassist. Over the years he has worked with a wide range of musicians, including Charles Earland, John Purcell, Luther Allison, Kurt Elling, Dave Liebman, Rhoda Scott, Hal Singer, Kirk Lightsey, Sarah Morrow and many others. He taught at the Conservatoire à Rayonnement Régional de Montpellier and was a member of the former teaching staff of the American School of Modern Music from 1988 to 2016. He was co-managing partner from 2005 to 2016. He has been co-director of IMEP – Paris College of Music since 2016.
