After ‘Falling Grace’, an exploration of standards in trio that racked up over 4 million streams, Romain Pilon presents ‘Open Roads’, a new album that showcases his talents as a composer. Combining voices and timbres with a subtle imagination, the guitarist opens up new horizons for his music, alternating tracks in trio with a quintet featuring an unprecedented combination of timbres, combining the trumpet of Jean-Paul Estiévenart, a leading musician on the Belgian scene, with the new vibraphone revelation in France, Alexis Valet. Inscribed in the adventurous spirit of the Blue Note albums of the heyday and a more contemporary ECM sound, marked by the influence of Pat Metheny and Kenny Wheeler alike, ‘Open Roads’ unveils a succession of sensitive, poetic, lyrical and groovy tracks, displaying a wide range of emotions and colours under the fingers of a guitarist whose reputation is well established.
