Ralph Alessi masterclass
The Constellations festival is back! It will take place on 30, 31 August and 1 September 2024. This festival has been co-produced for the past 8 years by the Under the RADAR and Pour Jazz à la Villette groups of jazz musicians. With more than a dozen music groups taking to the stage, ‘Juste avant l’aube’ and Villette Makerz offer a joyous programme where you can take part in creative and discovery workshops.
MASTERCLASS Instrumentalist with Ralph Alessi Improvisation, Composition, Creation
Friday 30 August 2024 from 10am to 5pm at La Sirène de Paris, 20 rue Dareau in the 14th arrondissement. Open to experienced, semi-professional and professional instrumentalists. Ralph Alessi is a leading trumpeter/composer on the international jazz and creative music scene, dividing his time between Brooklyn, New York and Berne, Switzerland. Over the course of his career, he has played and recorded with some of the greatest artists of the early part of this century, including Fred Hersch, Steve Coleman, Ravi Coltrane, Jason Moran, Sam Rivers, Tim Berne, Uri Caine and many others. Ralph currently records regularly for the prestigious ECM label. As an educator, he has taught at the Eastman School of Music, NYU and the University of Nevada-Reno. He is also founder and director of the School of Improvisational Music, a visiting professor at the National Jazz Academy in Siena, Italy, and recently joined the faculty of the Hochschule der Künste Bern JAZZ. Drawing on this high-level career and his extensive experience as an educator, this rare and eagerly-awaited masterclass will be a great opportunity to share and understand music, improvisation and the composer’s approach to creative music. The masterclass is open to all musicians/artists/researchers and listeners. Morning: Presentation of works, discussions and collective reflections. Afternoon: Group practice for experienced instrumentalists.
