#Jazzdedemain Xavier Belin
Xavier Belin’s debut album, ‘Pitakpi’, has been hailed as ‘the new star of West Indian jazz’ by TSF Jazz and named ‘Revelation’ by Jazz Magazine.
Born into a mixed-race family, the bassist immersed himself in the Martinique Creole culture of his maternal grandfather, integrating Caribbean music into his conception of groove and rhythmic placement. L’Humanité describes him as ‘a gentle dynamiter of borders’. The terms ‘Caribbean jazz’ and ‘Creole jazz’, often used to define his music, are pleonasms for him, but nevertheless remain the most appropriate to describe his influences and his musical creation. ‘PLÉONASME’ is an opportunity to pay tribute to jazz standards from these Creole cultures, with some very talented musicians. For the past 15 years, #JazzDeDemain has been offering young artists the chance to perform on stage and hone their repertoire with an audience, through a series of monthly and bi-monthly residencies. It’s a promising and dynamic space where creativity and emulation know no bounds.
