Heather Stewart at the Cinq Codet
Every Wednesday and Thursday, Cinq Codet teams up with Alex Swing Events to bring you a variety of top-quality jazz evenings in the chic, cosy atmosphere of its Chiquette restaurant. Heather Stewart is a distinctive voice on the international jazz and blues scene. Her repertoire consists mainly of American songs from the 1900s to the 1950s. She is inspired by singers such as Annette Hanshaw, Billie Holiday, Ella Fitzgerald and Bessie Smith, and performs a variety of composers from Irving Berlin, Scott Joplin and Duke Ellington to Big Bill Broonzy. She has devoted her time to exploring acoustic blues, string and jug bands such as the Mississippi Sheiks. Her musical precision, humility and joy of playing have won her four music awards for her jazz and blues albums. She has studied the roots of jazz and ragtime, which have helped give her a voice and fiddle sound that are unique among musicians of her generation. Based in Paris since 2016 after 15 years in Australia, she works with illustrious new bands such as Paris Jazz Sessions, Three for Swing, Leigh Barker Band, Orchestra Del Mar, Blue Mockingbirds and her group Hezz Jazz.
