Etienne Mbappé, a bassist with silk-gloved hands, handles his instrument with exceptional technical skill, combined with a melodious, singing groove that gives his compositions and performances a colour and warmth in the image of the man himself: human, open and alive. After concerts and tours in Europe, the Caribbean, Africa and Asia with Joe Zawinul, Manu Dibango, Salif Keita, Ray Charles and John McLaughlin, he is back with the Prophets, bringing together the finest young instrumentalists working to transcend traditions and cultures with a universal musical sweetness. With this line-up, he puts his own personal favourites to the fore, inviting gifted youngsters, today’s rising stars and tomorrow’s big names into his group. Étienne sees them as ‘prophets’ capable, in the form of musical prophecy, of revealing forgotten or hidden truths about the primary role of music as a vehicle for the values of freedom, sharing and love. These seven virtuoso musicians, giving free rein to improvisation, invite us to sing, dance, vibrate, love and celebrate life. Sylvain Luc passed away on 13 March 2024, leaving behind him a priceless musical legacy. On 8 February, Paris will pay tribute to Sylvain Luc, a virtuoso musician whose unrivalled talent and generous spirit left their mark on the world of jazz, with an unforgettable evening at the Théâtre du Châtelet in Paris, as well as in Parisian jazz clubs. Acknowledged as ‘the greatest guitarist in the world’ by iconic artists such as Pat Metheny and Michel Legrand, Sylvain Luc has left an indelible mark on the world of jazz, uniting generations of musicians with his innovative spirit and infectious passion. He has released numerous albums, won numerous awards, and performed and recorded all over the world, leaving us with an exceptionally rich musical heritage. The ‘Nuit Sylvain Luc’ will kick off at the Châtelet with a two-hour concert, bringing together renowned artists to perform Sylvain’s original compositions. Each performance will be a vibrant celebration of his exceptional talent and the profound influence of his music. But it’s also across Paris and its iconic jazz clubs: Le Sunset, Le Baiser Salé, Le Duc des Lombards and Le Sunside that this great celebration will take place. Each of these venues will host unique performances in honour of Sylvain, transforming Paris into a musical feast, reflecting the friendship and sharing he always encouraged. We invite you to join us for this memorable night dedicated to a musician whose legacy will continue to inspire and unite jazz lovers around the world.
