Bernard Vidal, co-founder of IMEP – Paris College of Music, organizes his annual summer courses. It’s time to sign up!

The first course runs from August 24 to 30.

Reserved for first-time participants.

Location: To be determined. In Ariège or Sète, depending on the number of participants

On the program: work on a standard and improvisation. Harmonic understanding, rhythmic and melodic freedom and creativity. Interplay: how the rhythm section and soloist fit together.

Analysis of the trainee’s game, advice and a structured program that can evolve over time

Price: 420 euros full board

The second course runs from September 1 to 8.

Reserved for musicians who have already taken a course with Bernard Vidal.

Location: Domaine de Maleval, Ardèche

On the program: work on a repertoire to be performed in three concerts at the end of the course. An objective of efficiency in group work, the sound of the group, where each contributor is directed to optimize his or her position.

There’s plenty of room for improvisation and inter-play, and the emphasis is on quality of execution and solo-building strategy.

Price: 590 euros full board

Additional information:

Intended audience: The workshop is aimed at musicians with at least 2 years’ experience of improvisation; each participant brings his/her own instrument(s).

Entries: By audition (videos, recordings, interviews)

Number of places: 15 trainees maximum

Bernard Vidal is a professional jazz guitarist, former improvisation and performance teacher at IMEP and co-founder of the school. Each year, it trains a dozen trainees in an exceptional setting with a unique atmosphere conducive to musical creation.
